Joey V

EXTRA!!!!EXTRA!!!!

Tragedy struck the Texas A&M football program when one of their linemen died in a car crash. Although he rarely played, he made a big impact to not only the football program but to just about the whole state.

Joseph Villavisencio was a backup offensive lineman who barely played. But when he died, all of Texas A&M cried. Joey V was probably the nicest man in the world.

Before Joseph died, he was delivering gifts to families at a local homeless shelter after running their last drills before the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas on December 31.

Former Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman said, “He was one of the most respectful and high-character players I’ve ever coached.” Sherman was fired on December 1st, but he coached Villavisencio since he was a freshman. ”It was an honor and privilege to have known him and coached him.”

Sherman also said that people would remember Villavisencio as a person “who would do anything for anybody.”

I never met Villavisencio, but one of my father’s colleagues’ sons knew him. I bet if I had met this warm-hearted man, from what I’ve heard about him, I would say he was the nicest person I had ever met.

My biggest thoughts go out to the family of Joseph Villavisencio. My thoughts also go out to the people who knew Joseph, because he touched about every possible heart.

In loving memory of Joseph Villavisencio 1989-2011

  2. Brendogg- even though you never met Joey, you truly painted his character in your article! Knowing young men like you would take the time to get to know Joey V even a little means the world to his family and friends. Thank you, and I hope your family has a very Merry Christmas!
